The Beale Stree Music Festival and Memphis in May was one of my favorite events growing up in Memphis, Tennessee.  I have many strong memories of going there as a spectator and playing there as a performer.  It would be truly sad to see this phenomenon disappear from our nostalgic landscape.  Please continue to support this amazing experience, afterall, it is a cornerstone of the blues capital of the world (sorry Chicago).  Memphis is still the center for media and entertainment, notably a historic music scene.  Do not let this heartbreakingly disappear.  Continue to support Memphis music (home of Elvis Presley, B.B King, Al Green, Isaac Hayes and W.C. Handy)

Earth, Wind, and Fire

International R&B Band

Earth, Wind and Fire is an American group whose music encompasses the genres of jazz, RandB, soul, funk, disco, pop, Latin and Afropop. They are the best-selling band of all time, with over 90 million records sold worldwide.

Maurice White founded the group in 1969 in Chicago and grew out of the Salty Peppers. its history includes a brreak from mid-1984 to mid-1987. Notable members include Verdine White, Philip Bailey, Ralph Johnson, Larry Dunn, Al McKay, Roland Bautista, Robert Brookins, Sonny Emory, Fred Ravel, Ronnie Laws, Sheldon Reynolds, and Andrew Woolfolk . The band is known for its kalimba sound, dynamic horn section, energetic and agile stage presence, and the contrast between Bailey's falsetto and Maurice's tenor vocals.

The 1970s saw the emergence of a new brand of pop music steeped in African and African-American styles—especially jazz and RandB—but appealing to a wider cross-section of listeners. As the founder and leader of the group Earth, Wind and Fire, Maurice White not only embraced, but helped develop, pop music that crossed the divide that often separated black and white American music tastes. It was definitely a success, because EWF combined advanced musicianship, the eclecticism of a wide musical genre, and the multicultural spiritualism of the 70s. "I wanted to do something I hadn't done before," explains Maurice..
